Responsibilities Divided Between Departments for Ambubachi Mela

A meeting was held on the premises of the DC office of Kamrup Metropolitan to discuss the responsibilities of various departments for the upcoming Ambubachi Mela. The dates for this year’s Ambubachi Mela are June 22 to June 26.

Additional Commissioner Dhruvajyoti Hazarika chaired this preparatory meeting. It was attended by key officials from all concerned departments of the administration. And the goal of this meeting was to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival. The district administration will coordinate between the temple authorities and various departments.

Decision was taken to increase the number of accommodations for devotees from last year’s five camps. Special measures will be taken to maintain cleanliness and hygiene across the city. Also, measures have been taken to illuminate the roads leading to the temple premises. As the organizers are expecting a larger number of visitors, proper arrangements need to be made.

Responsibilities :

GMDA has been given the responsibility for the proper illumination of key areas of the city. These include the Jalukbari flyover, the Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Khetra, Balaji Temple, Umananda Temple and various tourist destinations. APDCL will ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the temple and the camps. While the health department will be setting up several medical camps and emergency stations. The forest department has been ordered to be prepared to handle any snake related problem. 

ASTC has the responsibility for transporting devotees to and from the gate at the base of the hill. Vehicles will also be arranged for devotees with special needs from the base of the hill to the temple. The duty of maintaining the camps has been given to the public health engineering department. The police department will look into the overall traffic and crowd management. The safety of devotees is also another responsibility of the police department. 

The Scouts and Guides will be maintaining the flow of pilgrims inside the premises. NDRF and SDRF have been told to stay ready to handle any possible problem. The tourism department and the railways have also been given responsibilities of helping out the visitors.
