Guwahati, October 25: In view of the upcoming Chhath Puja 2025 celebrations on October 27 and 28, 2025, the Guwahati Traffic Police has announced a series of traffic regulations and restrictions to ensure smooth movement and public safety during the festivities. The restrictions will be in force from 11:00 AM on October 27 until 11:00 AM on October 28, 2025.
Traffic Restrictions for Chhath Puja 2025
- Ban on heavy vehicles: No commercial goods-carrying or heavy vehicles will be allowed to enter Guwahati city during the restriction period.
- Restricted stretch: Vehicular movement, except for vehicles carrying puja materials and devotees, will be prohibited on MG Road between Machkhowa Point and Hon’ble Chief Justice Bungalow Point.
- Slow-moving vehicles: Hand carts, rickshaws, and pony carts will not be allowed on the same stretch of MG Road, except those carrying puja items.
- City buses: Buses coming from Khanapara towards Bharalumukh must use GS Road–AT Road and will not be permitted to turn towards Panbazar via the ROB.
- Inter-district and ASTC buses: Heavy vehicles, including inter-district and rural service buses from Jalukbari, will be diverted via NH-27 at Jalukbari and will not enter the city.
- Vehicle size restriction: Only four-wheeler vehicles will be permitted for devotees; six-wheelers will not be allowed.
- HB Road flow: Traffic will be allowed on both sides between Sani Mandir and Panbazar Police Point.
- Lachit Ghat: No vehicle parking will be permitted inside Lachit Ghat.
Diversion Arrangements
- Vehicles coming from Bharalumukh towards Panbazar/Chandmari will be diverted at Machkhowa Elevated Corridor Point towards HB Road (via TRP Road) or AT Road. Vehicles proceeding to Chandmari/Latasil will turn left at NB Hall (Sessions Court) Point and continue via FC Road.
- Vehicles from Chandmari towards Panbazar/Bharalumukh/Jalukbari will be diverted at NB Hall (Sessions Court) Point towards HB Road.
- Light vehicles from Uzanbazar/Latasil towards Bharalumukh will be diverted at Planetarium Point via Lamb Road–FC Road–Tayebulla Point–GNB Road–District Library, and will take a left turn at NB Hall Point.
Parking Arrangements
- Vehicles carrying devotees and puja materials from the Bharalumukh side will be allowed to park at Lakhi Goli, Chamber Road, M.S. Road, S.R.C.B. Road, and the market side of MG Road.
- At Sonaram Higher Secondary School Ghat, all vehicles will be parked inside the field.
No-Parking Zones for Chhath Puja 2025
- AT Road (from Bharalumukh to Panbazar Overbridge south point) will be kept free of parked vehicles from 7:00 AM on October 27 until the completion of rituals on October 28.
- Parking will not be allowed on MLN Road, ARB Road, SS Road, SRCB Road, HB Road, and TRP Road.
- No heavy vehicles or trucks shall be parked on TRP Road, Lakhi Gali, Chamber Road, SRCB Road, Kedar Road, or MS Road during the same period.
The Guwahati Traffic Police has urged citizens and devotees to cooperate and follow the designated routes and parking instructions to ensure a peaceful and safe observance of Chhath Puja 2025.
