NCDFI and WAMUL organize North East Dairy Cooperative Conclave

The National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India Limited and West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Limited organised the North East Dairy Cooperative Conclave. The event was held in the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra Auditorium in Guwahati on the 11th of May with the aim to bring together all the dairy cooperatives of Northeast India.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam addressed the gathering in the North East Dairy Cooperative Conclave 2022 in Guwahati. Assam Minister for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department and Cooperation, Atul Bora, Chairman of National Dairy Development Board, Meenesh Shah and Satish Marathe, the Director of Reserve Bank of India graced the conclave. The conclave was also attended by Shamalbhai Patel, Chairman of GCMMF, Mangal Jit Rai, Chairman of NCDFI, Rajesh Parjane, Chairman of Godavari Milk Union. Official from various departments, dairy farmer representatives and officials of dairy cooperative unions of Northeastern states took active part in the conclave. 

Around 500 dairy farmers from Assam and around 100 more from the other Northeast states took part in this event. Representatives from Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd (Tripura), Manipur Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (Manipur), Sikkim Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd (Sikkim), Mizoram Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (Mizoram), Dimapur District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd (Nagaland), East Khasi Hills District Cooperative Milk Union Ltd (Meghalaya) and Arunachal Pradesh Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd (Arunachal Pradesh) took active part in the deliberations.

During the conclave a cattle feed manufacturing facility of Purabi Dairy was inaugurated by the Assam chief minister. It will be supplying Purabi Daana to the dairy farmers of the region. The conclave also witnessed signing of the tripartite agreement between Government of Assam, NDDB and East Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd. (EAMUL) for managing EAMUL by NDDB for a period of five years. During the conclave, the CM also emphasized on the development of dairy sector of the region.

The conclave discussed various dairy related schemes, initiatives and interventions which are proving to be hugely beneficial for the dairy farmers of the region. It highlighted the importance of cooperatives that are playing a critical role in sustainable dairy farming by small and marginal dairy farmers.
