Meghalaya: NE’s 1st Ever Ginger Processing Plant to be Operational Soon

The first ever specialized ginger processing plant at Ri-Bhoi district in Meghalaya is likely to be operational in the early period of 2021. The announcement was made by Union Minister Jitendra Singh recently.

The minister said that the plant will not only process ginger but also help in preparing products like waxed ginger, ginger paste, ginger powder, ginger flakes, ginger oil etc.

It is the first-ever specialised ‘ginger’ processing plant in the Northeast. It was established around the year 2004 but remained non-functional for a lot of time. The responsibility of reviving the plant is being undertaken by the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC).

The Northeastern region is responsible for producing 4,50,000 tonnes of high quality ginger per year. However most of the produce is sold at a much lower price due to non availability of processing and cold storage facilities. Hence, this plant could prove to be extremely beneficial.

A floating restaurant will be created near the Bogibeel Bridge in Assam. Read the details here.
