Week-Long Celebration of Lachit Borphukan’s 400th Birthday

The week-long celebration to commemorate the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukhan started in the state today and will continue till Lachit Divas on November 24.

Lachit Borphukan was the best among the military generals of the Ahom empire. He was also one of the best military strategists of the country. And the only one across the subcontinent who could stop the conquests of the raging Mughal army. But very few Indians are aware of this hero other than academicians and the officers who passed from the National Defense Academy.

The Government of Assam started year long campaign in order to make more and more people aware about Lachit Borphukan. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had made an announcement about this previously.

The week-long celebration is to be carried out in each of the districts of the state of Assam. The celebration started today with march past conducted by Assam Police. Separate teams carried out these procedures across the state. The events will also include an essay writing competition about Lachit Borphukan tomorrow. Central celebration of the event will be done in all the districts of the state will be organised on his birthday, 24th November.

Events will also be organised at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi to commemorate this event. The three day event starts on the 23rd of November. Union finance mister Nirmala Sitharaman will be present on the first day. Amit Shah will attend the event on 24th with Narendra Modi will attend it on the concluding day.

Himanta Biswa Sarma also launched a mobile application and theme song towards the same event.
