Lahoi Lalungoni: Maitrayee Patar’s 1st Contemporary Folk Song

Popular Assamese singer, songwriter and poet Maitrayee Patar has launched a new song ahead of Bihu. Named Lahoi Lalungoni, it went live on Sunday, February 19 across multiple online platforms. An official video has also been released on her official channel on YouTube.

Lahoi Lalungoni is Bihu song that encases the colorful Tiwa culture and the Assamese language. Rupkrishna Patar, Maitrayee’s father, has looked into the enhancement of the traditional lyrics and the composition of this number.

The music has been arranged by Poran Borkatoky while mixing for the song has been done by Ibson Lal Baruah. Veteran Tiwa musician Mungsha Dulen Dewri plays the Khram in the song. Samujjal Kashyap looking into the direction of the video, attempts to show the simple yet colorful Tiwa life. Abhinab Maut is the producer for this number.

“I am thrilled to share my first contemporary folk music venture. It is very special to me as it is my first attempt at bringing my Tiwa roots out into the world. A lot of effort went in to make this composition and everyone on the team put in their best. Hope the audience love it as much as we loved making it.” Said Maitrayee Patar, while speaking about this new song.

She also mentioned that this song has taken a year and a half to complete and fine-tune for the public. And that the fine amalgamation of traditional folk music and contemporary music will make this song a favorite for everyone. Even more than her previous numbers, she expressed.
