2nd Season of Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project to be launched on Oct 4

The 2nd season of the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project is all set to flag off on October 4. Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project aims to promote the music sector of the state. It also aims to encourage the tourism sector in the state of Meghalaya. 

Supported by the Tourism Department of the state, the 2nd Season of the project aims to take it to the next level. It flags off on Wednesday, 4 October 2023. The inaugural event will take place in the Khyndailad locality of the city. The organizers promised that the launch will be a spectacular showcase of the musical talent of the state. 

The previous season of the event was flagged off in 2022. It was conceived by the Meghalaya Government. The key vision behind the event was to nurture and promote local musicians, event organizers, songwriters, composers and technical vendors. And to forge a profound connection between music and tourism and highlight the rich cultural heritage of Meghalaya.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Tourism Minister Bah Paul Lyngdoh will also attend the launch event. Several other dignitaries including ministers and officials will also take part. 

The chief minister also launched the first edition of the event in April 2022. It also created an opportunity to enjoy a large range of musical acts and attractions for the tourists.It also gave chances to the local talents of the state. Nearly 1600 performers got opportunities for live performances over 10 months. They organized these events at the cafes, basking areas and special events across Shillong, Tura, Jowai and Sohra. 

1735 artists performed in Shillong, 281 in Sohra, 117 in Jowai and 216 in Tura under the project. An additional 650 artists performed in Shillong, 325 in Sohra, 325 in Jowai and 320 in Tura under the street performance platforms. Also, 650 artists performed in cafe gigs in Shillong, 325 in Sohra, 325 in Jowai and 320 in Tura. They also organized 15 specially curated music events in Shillong, 1 in Sohra and 12 in Tura.
