Solar Power farm inaugurated in Boko of Assam

In a very significant development towards making the region self sufficient in generation of eco-friendly energy, a solar power farm of 25 Megawatt capacity was inaugurated today.

Boko is a town located about fifty kilometers from the city of Guwahati. Primarily an agricultural region, this town also has large empty lands which do not produce good quality outputs. One of such regions in Bhalukghata has been turned into a solar power generating unit. A solar farm is a large area where multiple solar panels are placed to generate huge amounts of electricity. The one recently developed has a capacity of 25 megawatts.

This project is the largest solar power farm project in the region. While inaugurating the same, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned that Assam is now moving towards self sufficiency in power. And not only self sufficiency, it will be generated by environment friendly renewable sources of energy.

Assam foes not have ample power generation capacity and faces power shortages quite often. Power rages and cuts are quite common, specially during the summer months. These solar plants will help the state and major cities nearby to cope with the shortage in supply. They also help to generate employment in the nearby areas.
