Assam starts COVID-19 Vaccination for 15 to 18 year olds

Assam has started administering COVID-19 vaccines from today for the age group of fifteen to eighteen. The initiative was stated at multiple locations across the state of Assam. The chief minster stated the vaccination campaign in Duliajan of Dibrugarh district while the health minster started the same in the capital city of Guwahati.

Assam had recorded more than two crore successful administrations of the first dose and almost one crore of the second dose by mid November of 2021. This was the result of multiple mega vaccination drives carried out across the state under the guidance and supervision of the chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Towards the end of last year, the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi had announced that the citizens of the age group of fifteen to eighteen. He had also announced that the senior citizens of the country will receive a third booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Front-line workers of the country were the first to be vaccinated followed by the people aged over sixty years. Then came the opportunity for the age group of forty to sixty. This was followed by the vaccination of those elder than eighteen years. And from today the children of the age group of fifteen to eighteen will be be vaccinated.

Registration on the CoWin portal is compulsory for vaccination. Slots can be booked in both online and offline modes and will be available for free at government allocated facilities. Only Covaxin will be administered to this age group.
