The government of Assam on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the budget flier, Flybig airline in order to operate flights between Guwahati and  Dibrugarh and Silchar. 

The signing of the MoU took place in Guwahati on Saturday. Kumar Padma Pani Bora, MD of ATDC signed it on the behalf of Assam Government while director Sanjay Natavarlal Mandavia signed for Flybig. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Barua were also present for the event.

Flybig will now operate on the Guwahati- Dibrugarh- Guwahati and the Guwahati- Silchar-Guwahati routes. The chief minister mentioned that these services will help in the development of the air transport services in the Northeastern part of the country.  He also mentioned that the prices have been capped at Rs 4000. 

The MoU also ensured for the operations under the vulnerability gap funding. 50% of the tickets ensure the routes remain viable for the operator. If the number is less than that, the state government will ensure the number. 

New flights will benefit Mohanbari airport in Dibrugarh and Kumbhirgram airport in Silchar. The cities as well as the nearby areas will also benefit from this new service. Silchar is about 320 kms while Dibrugarh is about 440 km from Guwahati.
