Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugarates Assam Bhawan in Tamil Nadu

In a bid to ensure that the people from Assam do not have to face problems in Vellore, the state government has constructed an Assam Bhawan there. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the facility on Tuesday, September 26. 

This project is expected to serve as a guest house for the people from Assam and the other Northeast Indian states. People from the region visit Vellore in Tamil Nadu in large numbers every year. They visit the location mainly for medical care and treatment at the Christian Medical College located in Vellore. This facility will ensure that the patients and their families do not face problems during their stay.

The students from Northeast India will also benefit from the Assam Bhawan in Tamil Nadu. The Vellore Institute of Technology is another important educational institution in the city. And this engineering college has a large number of students from this part of the country. 

Speaking on the occasion, Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced that the government will construct similar facilities in other major cities of the country as well. These include cities like Pune and Ahmedabad. He also mentioned that the talks are on for the allocation of a plot in New Delhi for the same purpose. And these facilities will ensure support towards the students, patients and their family members traveling to these destinations. 

He also pointed out that the Assam Bhawan in Vellore was completed in four phases. It incurred a total cost of Rs 22.83 Cr. Assam government acquired a 1755.20 sqm plot of land from the Tamil Nadu government for this project. The building has a total construction area of 4,340 sqm. And includes a wide variety of accommodation options. These include VVIP and VIP suites. It also includes double bedded rooms and dormitories for both males and females.
