Meghalaya issues new SOPs to combat Omicron variant

With the growing number of infections of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the country, more and more states are issuing sanctions on the movement of people and organizing events. The government of Meghalaya has also issued a list of standard operating procedures towards the same end.

The following are the key points from the SOPs.

  • All gatherings are prohibited in the state.
  • Marriages are allowed with a maximum of 100 people in open spaces and 50% of capacity in closed spaces.
  • Maximum of 50 people allowed for funerals.
  • RTPCR negative report no older than 72 hours or testing at entry point of state is compulsory. Those opting for testing at the entry points, must stay isolated till the receipt of the test results.
  • Even- odd rule has been implemented for private vehicles on weekdays. Odd numbered vehicles will ply on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Even numbered vehicles are allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The rule will however be exempted on Sundays.
  • Night curfew imposed in the state from 10 PM to 5 AM.
  • COVID appropriate behavior like wearing masks and social distancing is compulsory.
