Meghalaya to offer Incentive for COVID-19 Vaccination

In order to invite more citizens of Meghalaya to take the COVID-19 vaccine, the state government has decided to provide an incentive. Rewards will be given out to the first hundred villages to reach a 100% success rate in vaccination.

Thanking the local communities for their contribution during the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown, the state government has announced an incentive. The first hundred villages to reach a 100% vaccination rate of all the eligible members will receive an incentive of Rs. 5,00,000 each. The deadline for the same has been set on the 31st of August 2021. This money will be given by the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority and can be used for any development activity decided by the village authority.

For those villages which have achieved the goal already, facilitation will be done on the upcoming Independence Day.

Although several vaccination drives have been taken up by the Government of Meghalaya, the number of takers of the vaccines are very limited. The number is lower in the rural regions of the hill state. This lack of proper knowledge as well as the limited medical facilities in the far flung regions of the state has increased both the number of infections as well as fatalities, specially during the second wave of the infections.
