Guwahati Airport sees 15% increase in passenger footfall in a year

The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Northeast India. This airport also handles the largest passenger footfall in the entire country.

The authorities of the Guwahati Airport mentioned that they handled nearly 5 lakh passengers in the month of June. This is a 15 per cent increase compared to the footfall in the month of June last year. Out of the total number, around 295000 were departure passengers. And the remaining were arriving. Also, both numbers include foreigners traveling to the region.

With the highest single-day footfall being 17513 people including international tourists. Also, the airport handled the maximum air traffic movement for a single day to be 129 for the month of June. The total number of flight movements in the month of June was nearly 4000. The airport has connectivity to a total of thirty-two domestic and two international destinations. Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru are the top four domestic destinations from Guwahati. And Singapore and Paro are the two foreign tourists with flights from Guwahati.

This growth in passenger footfall proves the resurgence of tourism in the post covid era. The authorities expect a consistent growth in the winter schedule as well. Winters usually see more tourists in the state and the entire region. The key reason is the opening of the national parks of the region. The multitude of festivals in the northeastern part of the country is another reason for the increase of tourists in winter.

The number of tourists in the state of Assam in the 2022-23 tourism season broke all previous records. And the tourism department as well as tourism dependent businesses are expecting an increase.
