Indian Railways extends its Connectivity in Manipur

The Northeast Indian state of Manipur is the latest to be included in the vast network of Indian Railways today. And a major part of the extension of connectivity and development of the Indian Railways is happening under the Northeast Frontier Railways.

For the first time a railway engine reached the railway station in the Khongsang village in the state. This is on the under construction Jiribam – Imphal track. The inaugural run of the track was eagerly welcomed by a lot of people. Traditional dance performances were also included in this welcome event. Once completed, this track will give proper much better access of railway services to the people of Manipur. A total of eleven stations are planned on this nearly 100 kilometre long track. And it is planned to be completed by the end of the next year.

Indian Railways is ranked forth worldwide in terms of area covered. And is working towards the addition of new places to its network. And as a part of this idea, the state of Manipur is now accessible by train. The first station of the state was Jiribam which got the first train in the month of January. Another state to be added recently to this list is Tripura. This state also got its railway connectivity in the beginning of the year.

Several plans including the extension of the existing Vistadome trains is on the cards. Increasing connectivity in the state of Meghalaya and creation of more tourist circuits in the region are planned.
