Hockey World Cup Trophy Displayed in Guwahati

The FIH Odisha Mens Hockey World Cup Trophy is being taken across the country just ahead of the next version of the tournament. As a part of the tour, the trophy traveled through Guwahati as well.

The trophy arrives in Guwahati from Imphal, the capital of Manipur. A large contingent of enthusiasts and Assam Police commandos guarded the trophy across the city. It was received by Gitartha Goswami and Tapan Kumar Das on behalf of Assam Hockey.

Gauhati University was the first stop for the trophy where it was greeted by staff and students of the institution. It was then taken to the Hockey stadium where players and officials of the sport welcomed the trophy. It was then moved to the Ganesh Mandir Indoor Stadium in Guwahati . A cultural event was organised to mark the historic day in the stadium premises.

Ministers Jogen Mohan and Nandita Garlosa were present for the event. Minister Youth Affairs & Sports for Arunachal Pradesh, Mama Natung also attended the event in Guwahati. Thereafter, the trophy was taken to the Kamakhya Temple. There it was formally handed over to the authorities of Jharkhand Hockey in the temple premises.

The matches of the FIH Odisha Mens Hockey World Cup Trophy start early next year. Two stadiums in Odisha will play host to all the international matches of this tournament. Also, Odisha is the main sponsor for both the Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams of India.
