After Lemons, Pumpkins, and Red Rice, Assam exports Leteku

Assam has exported consignment of 500 kilograms of Burmese Grapes , locally known as leteku or letuk, to be sold in the markets of Dubai. This project was an undertaking of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority ( APEDA ) .

Leteku is a tropical seasonal fruit growing in the forests of northeast India and the nearby countries. This tangy juicy fruit is an excellent source of Vitamin C and iron. It also has various minerals and anti-oxidants. People of these regions also commercially cultivate leteku. It is commonly available available in the markets of these region, but limited self life is the problem in preservation.

This fruit helps to improve the human immunity, which is of upmost importance during the COVID-19 global pandemic. The iron content also helps in increasing the hemoglobin content in blood. Calcium in the fruit helps in creating stronger bones.

Previously Assam had exported pumpkins to the markets of Dubai, lemons to the markets of Europe and red rice to the markets of United States. And the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority helps in the export of several other agricultural products from the region. These include the Lakadong turmeric from Meghalaya.
