Events Calendar of Northeast India : Winter 2021

The Northeastern part of India is well known for both its picturesque landscape as well as the vibrant culture. The presence of a huge number of unique socio- economic and ethnic communities means that there will be large number of festive events each and every year. So team Discover East has compiled a events calendar that different states of the region have on the cards for the winter of 2021.

Some of the events on this calendar are focused on attracting tourist crowds to a particular destination or the state while others focus on showcasing the local culture and traditions of the state. So here is the events calendar of Northeast India for this winter.

  1. Events calendar for Assam : Assam has the largest population as well as ethnic diversity in the whole Northeastern region of the country. It also has a large number of events every year and here are a few of them.
    • Raas – Raas is more of cultural festival with religious significance. The stories of the life and and works of Lord Krishna are depicted in the form of live dance and music form known as Bhauna. This year it will be from the 18th to the 21st of November.
    • Majuli Music Festival – Another one of the main attractions of the largest river island is the Majuli Music Festival. This year the dates of this festival are 17th and 18th of December. This festival offers a great opportunity to go camping and cycling on the island. Read More.
    • Falcon Festival – The best time to visit the beautiful Umrangso region of Assam is during the Falcon Festival. Explore the natural beauty, adventure sports, and leisure activities. The organisesrs will host this year’s festival on the 19th and 20th of November. Read More.
  2. Events calendar of Meghalaya : Meghalaya, or the Abode of Clouds is the host of many small and large festivals. And the people organize most of these events during the winter season.
    • 100 Drums Festival – Wangala also called the 100 Drums Festival of the Garo people of Meghalaya is celebrated to thank the Sun deity for a good crop. It also showcases the culture and lifestyle of the Garo tribe. It will be celebrated on the 12th of November. More details here.
    • Cherry Blossom Festival – In the Northeastern part of the country, Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya organizes it great enthusiasm. A variety of events ranging from Cooking Competitions to Wine Festivals and Fashion Shows to Literature Festivals, are organized in multiple locations of the city during this festival. This year it will be happening from the 25th to the 27th of November and details are available here.
    • Me.gong Festival – The state organizes the Me.gong to attract and educate tourists about the Garo tribe of the state of Meghalaya. Camping, traditional food and liquor alongside the showcasing of culture and traditions are some highlights of this event. The date of this event are 18th and 19th of November and the details are available here.
  3. Events calendar for Mizoram
    • Anthurium Festival – Celebrated in the state of Mizoram, the Anthurium Festival celebrates the blooming of these beautiful flowers. This is also a tourism festival to attract more people to the state by showcasing their traditions and culture. Read More.
  4. Events calendar for Nagaland
    • Hornbill Festival – The Hornbill Festival is one of the largest festivals of the Northeastern Region of India. Initially started to bring harmony between the different tribes of the state, this celebration now pulls tourists from all parts of the country and even abroad.
