International Day for Persons with Disabilities Organised in Assam

The International Day for Persons with Disabilities is a United Nations event to help lower the limitations faced by specially abled people across the world. Several events were organised across Assam to mark the international event. This year’s theme is Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world.

The authorities of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport organised a small celebration to mark the day. Students from the Purvottar Institute for Persons with Disability performed a cultural show in the departure section of the airport. They were felicitated by the staff of Indigo airlines. The Chief Airport Officer also inaugurated a special facilitation desk for the specially-abled travelers in airport. Utpal Baruah also mentioned that this desk will provide the necessary help and support to everyone with special needs. Several other officers were also present during the event.

The chief minister of Assam also mentioned that the plans of construction of a new walkway is in place in the Kamahya Temple. This project is planned to connect the parking lot directly to the main temple. Once completed, it will help all the pilgrims to the temple, specially the ones with mobility issues and the senioe citizens.

Shishu Sarothi organised a puppet show on the theme Promoting Inclusive Education near the popular Dilghalipukhuri. The state government also organised several events to celebrate the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.
