Meghalya welcomes Tourists

Meghalaya ready to Welcome Tourists from September

The Northeastern state of Meghalaya is all set to welcome tourists from the 1st of September. People with all doses of any COVID-19 vaccine will now be able to enter the state without testing. This announcement was made by the Conrad Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

Although people could travel to the state on important businesses even during the current times, tourism activities was not encouraged and major tourist destinations of the state was kept out of bounds due to the fear of more infections.

However from the 1st of September, all major tourist destinations and amenities will be made available. Tourists from outside the state of Meghalaya who have taken all the does of any registered vaccine can now enter the state without any tests. Those who have not taken the full course have to produce a Negative RT PCR / TruNat / CBNAAT from any ICMR certified laboratory. This certificate should not be older than 72 hours at the time of entry in the state.

Residents of Meghalaya can visit any tourist destination within the state provides that they have taken either one or both the doses of any of the Covid-19 Vaccines.

This reopening is expected to provide the much needed boost to the tourism sector which has been closed for a major part of the last one and half year. Being one of the major income generating industries of the state, tourism and allied industries employs a large number of local people of the state.

Apart from restarting the tourism sector, Meghalaya also plans to open its educational institutions from the 1st of September. Colleges of the state can now open fully across the state. In the urban areas of Meghalaya students of classes 1 to 5 however will have to depend on online classes while those from classes 6 to 9 can visit their schools and the elder ones can have classes. In the rural regions however classes 1 to 5 can visit their schools while the rest can have classes.

Previously Meghalaya government had offered incentives for COVID-19 Vaccinations.
