Special Ferry Service for Religious Tourism to Start in Guwahati

Minister of Tourism of Assam, Jayanta Malla Baruah today announced that a new ferry service will be started on Brahmaputra. This special ferry service will cater to the seekers of religious tourism in the region. This new service will connect several places of religious interest on the north and south banks of Brahmaputra in Guwahati.

The Assam Cabinet under the lead of Himanta Biswa Sarma approved this new project as announced today. This project will be implemented under the Sagar Mala Project of the Government of India. Although no exact timeline was mentioned, he mentioned that this project will be completed soon.

The special ferry service will connect the Kamakhya Temple on the south bank to Ashwaklanta Temple on the north. It will then visit the Umananda Temple at the middle of the river before going to the Doul Govinda Temple on the north bank. This will help not only the takers of religious tourism, but those who want to spend some time travelling on the river.

Once completed, this project is expected to become a very important addition to the tourism sector of the state. A large number of visitors want to travel between both the banks of the river. But the lack of ample number of transportation services connecting the attractions has been a problem. The Guwahati rope way project has been an important development , but hardly enough to support everyone.

The Ganga Vilas ferry connecting Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to Dibrugarh in Assam will also start its 50 day voyage tomorrow.
