Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin launched in Assam

Guwahati: Raincheck Earth Co. has launched its landmark product, the Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin in the markets of Assam. The announcements came during an event organised in Guwahati on Wednesday. The alcoholic beverage was initially launched in Meghalaya.

This gin is a fusion of a total of 12 native botanicals from the Northeastern part of India. The distillers from the region and their Dutch counterparts have been able to create a drink with a local signature for the global palate. This designer gin has citrus forward notes, a creamily smooth juniper base and a hint of smokiness.

We wanted to make a gin which is unique to our place but designed for a global palate. We source and process these rare botanicals ourselves as there is no existing supply chain. These botanicals have never made their way into a gin and that’s what makes us very unique”, mentioned Mayukh Hazarika, CEO and Founder of Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin.

Some of the key botanicals used for the distillation of this drink are as follows. Kaji Nemu from Assam, Khasi Mandarin from Meghalaya, Smoked tea from Manipur, Cardamom from Sikkim and Juniper from eastern Himalayas, Cherrapunji gin is truly a product of the rich terroir of the North East.

After the massive success in the state of Meghalaya, Raincheck Earth Co. has launched the product in Guwahati. The Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin was born in Cherrapunji. It is the only Craft Gin in the Northeastern part of the country. And they are the only ones manufacturing gin using purified rainwater and native botanicals from the region.

Sustainability has been on the mind during sourcing, distillation and bottling processes. Also, the use of rainwater helps in the preservation of groundwater. Also the brand sources native botanicals from areas near the distillery. A reusable steel bottle replaces the usual glass bottles. This not only promotes reuse, but also reduces weight

The bottle is illustrated with the coloured life of Cherrapunji, India. A local mandarin picker, a colonial-era Bedford bus, a red panda, bamboo forests, monoliths etc. are all a part of this sleepy, rainy place. Portland-based designer Reshidev RK has illustrated these items quite beautifully on the bottles.

Mayukh Hazarika also mentioned that the excellent packaging and local nature of the flavours make this a very good souvenir and gifting item.
