The World Dairy Summit 2022 is now underway in the Indian Expo Center and Mart in Greater Noida. It was inaugurated yesterday by Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India in the presence of many eminent dignitaries.

Organised under the banners of the International Dairy Federation, the main events spread over a duration of four days starting on the 12th of September. While smaller events like business and farmers meets were held in two days preceding the main events. The World Dairy Summit is being hosted in India after a gap of 48 years. The participants of the event include experts of different avenues of the dairy sector from several countries. Dairy Innovation Awards were also handed over to the winners yesterday in the event.

The event has several rounds of discussions from delegates from various national and international organisations towards further improvement and growth in the sector. These involve food policies, farming techniques, livelihood, farm management, cattle health and opportunities, among others. Another key discussion involved the non cow milk sources like yaks, goats, camels and buffaloes. Sustainable food systems, policies and role of startups and the future of the sector are also in the agenda of discussion.

The dairy sector of the country is expanding rapidly in the last few years. As more and more dairy farmers start using modern scientific methods, the production grows every quarter. This has not only lifted the economic standards of the people involved, but also helped deal with malnutrition.

Representatives of the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd. (WAMUL) also participated in the event. Popularly known as Purabi Dairy, it is the largest dairy cooperative of the state.
