In an internal document Nestle admitted that more 70% of its food and drinks portfolio do not meet the “recognized definition of health”. Nestle is one of the world’s biggest company which makes Kitkat, Maggi noodles, Nescafe etc.
According to a report by the Times Now, the food company admitted that some of its food products will ‘never be healthy’ no matter “how much we renovate”
In a presentation that circulated among top executives in early 2021, only 37% of Nestle’s products achieved a rating of 3.5 or higher under Australia health star rating system, UK business daily Financial Times stated. Pet food and specialized medical nutrition were excluded from the list.

The presentation showed that out of the company’s overall food and drinks portfolio, 70% of products failed to make the cut, along with 90% of beverages excluding pure coffee.
Water and dairy products, however rated above the mark.
After the presentation, Nestle issued a statement saying it was working on a project to update its nutritional value and aiming to ensure that the products meet people nutritional needs.
“Nestlé India believes that nutrition is a fundamental need and the food industry has a vital role to play in enabling healthier lives. Driven by our purpose, we are constantly striving to increase the nutrient profile of our products, as well as innovate with new and nutritious offerings, Nestlé India spokesperson said on Tuesday as stated in a report.
Nestle India recently announced that it will provide families of employees who passed away due to COVID-19 with a two-year base salary along with pension, gratuity and other applicable statutory benefits, and support education of children and cover critical hospital expenses of impacted families.
