ISRO’s Chandrayaan 3 lands at the Lunar South Pole

In yet another feat of excellence, the Vikram Lander module of the Chandrayaan 3 mission landed on the moon. It made a successful soft landing at 6.04 PM (IST) on Wednesday. And this success triggered celebrations among the citizens of the country.

The Indian Space Research Organisation or ISRO has added another feather to its cap with this success. It has not only done the lunar landing successfully but also done at a very low cost. With this success, India has become the first country to land near the south pole of the moon.

The announcement of the successful landing was made by S Somanath. He is the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation. Several other scientists including the head of the Chandrayaan 3 project were also present. Making this announcement, the chairman commented, “India is on the Moon”.

The Prime Minister who is on a foreign tour, also congratulated the team via video conferencing technology. And called this a major achievement, not only for ISRO, but the entire country. He went on to announce an upcoming solar mission from the organisation. Several other leaders including the president also gave congratulatory messages to the nation. The success triggered celebrations across the country. People came out to the streets and busted crackers to celebrate the success.

The rover will now study the lunar surface for the coming 14 days. It will collect samples and a wide range of data with the equipment onboard. These will then be sent to Earth to be analysed for a proper study of the contents.

The success of Mangalyan and now Chandrayaan 3 puts ISRO in a very commanding position in terms of space exploration. Other space agencies have also congratulated ISRO on this success.
