Hajo’s Hayagriva Madhab Temple to Remain Closed for Devotees

The temple authorities of Hayagriva Madhab Temple, Hajo in Assam, have issued a notification on Friday stating that the temple will remain closed for devotees till 15th May 2021. The Hayagriva Madhab Temple is one of the first to take this step in order to prevent spreading of the Covid-19 virus in its second wave of infections.

The decision was prompted by the rapidly rising number of Covid-19 cases in the country as well as in the state.

The notification further stated that all the five shrines or Panchatirtha including Hayagriva Madhab Temple, Kedar Temple, Kameswar Temple, Kamleswar Temple and Ganesh Temple will remain closed till the mentioned date. The doors shall be closed after the ‘aarti’ performed at 7:30 PM on Friday.

These temples are among the first in the state to be closed for devotees amidst the second wave of Covid-19 in India. With more than 2,00,000 positive cases per day, India has already doubled the number of positive cases per day.

Last year saw the closure of all public places of worship and religious gathering in the wake of the fist wave. No such directives for the Central or State government have been issued yet in Assam.
