Blue Tigers Aim at Win in Qualifier at Guwahati 

Guwahati: The Indian National Football Team, the Blue Tigers is looking at a win in the key match today. They will be playing against the Afghanistan team in Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium on Tuesday. In the press meet ahead of the match, the coach mentioned that the team is looking to break the five-match goalless run. 

 This match holds much importance for the Blue Tigers. It is the pivotal FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 Joint Qualifiers Round 2 match. Football enthusiasts from across the region have expressed their eagerness regarding this match. India stands second in the table behind Qatar and is a point ahead of Kuwait in Group B.

All eyes will be on Sunil Chhetri, the captain of the Indian National Football Team. As this will be the 150th match for the footballer, in his country’s colours. Although he has not been on top of his game in recent times, fans across the country continue to look forward to his presence. 

 Both the teams had arrived in the city last week. They have practices in the practice ground in Sarusajai to get accustomed to the conditions. Speaking to the members of the press, coaches and captains of both teams expressed confidence regarding their teams. Indian coach, Igor Stimac however added that the performance in the ISL is very different when compared to gameplay at this level. 

But with the heavy rains in the city last night and the overcast weather since the morning, the enthusiasts have expressed some concern. Although no heavy rains have been predicted, showers could trigger delays and interruptions in the match. 

The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 PM on Tuesday, March 26. Tickets for the same are now available online through a ticketing partner. Gates are expected to open much earlier to allow the fans and enthusiasts to settle down ahead of the game.
