Conrad Sangma participants in cleanliness drive under My City Campaign

Shillong: Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma has showcased his steadfast commitment towards community empowerment, cleanliness and urban development. He participated in multiple activities in the capital city today. These events were parts of the My City campaign. The campaign aims to showcase the government’s commitment towards sustained development. 

The My City campaign aims to inculcate a sense of ownership and responsibility among the citizens. It also aims at keeping the localities clean and ensuring the development of the same. Several key officials and leaders took part in the activities organised on Saturday in the capital. 

Representatives of twelve localities of the state received cheques worth Rs 11.75 lakhs today. This fund is to be utilised for the cleanliness and beautification of these localities. These include the re-designing of bus stops and making public places litter-free. Community cleanliness drives, urban landscaping, waste collection etc are also included. 

Conrad Sangma also initiated the ‘Reimagining Streets’ initiative at the MIIT campus in Shillong. This initiative aims at the creation of walkable spaces across the city. The first phase of the initiative looks at the development of 12-15 km of footpaths. He also interacted with the local shopkeepers at Dhankehti in Shillong. He called on them to keep the locality clean and install dustbins at their establishments. Alongside he asked the citizens to use such dustbins actively, instead of littering the streets. 

He also spoke about the Quarterly Cleaning Drive Program of the city. Under this program, funds will be provided every three months towards the redevelopment of Shillong. The government will take additional steps to add over 1200 parking spaces across the city. They will also undertake projects towards the beautification of key junctions and important localities. Alongside, the development of the road network of the state is also on the cards of the government. Taking to the audience at the event, the CM called for the active participation of the residents.
