Kaziranga National Park Reopens for 2026–27 Tourism Season

Guwahati, October 3, 2026: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has reopened to tourists for the 2026–27 tourism season. The park reopened on October 3 after its annual monsoon closure. As of now, only jeep safari has been made available in two ranges of the protected areas.

The reopening ceremony was held at the Kohora Range. Assam Environment and Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah formally marked the beginning of the new tourism season. Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Atul Bora and Kaziranga MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa were also present.

Jeep safaris have started from the opening day. The Central Range at Kohora and Western Range at Bagori are among the first areas open to visitors. Other ranges will reopen in phases.

There will be two jeep safari slots each day. The morning slot is from 7:30 am to 10 am. The afternoon slot is from 1:30 pm to 3 pm. Visitors must leave the park within the prescribed time after their safari.

Elephant safaris will not be available immediately. They are expected to resume from November 1, after the necessary preparations are completed.

Kaziranga is famous for its population of the greater one-horned rhinoceros. It is also home to tigers, elephants, wild water buffaloes, swamp deer and many species of birds. The park is a major wildlife tourism destination in Assam.

Speaking at the reopening, Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said the government would focus on improving tourism infrastructure. The Forest and Tourism departments are also looking at new attractions and tourism circuits.

The government wants visitors to spend more time in the Kaziranga region. New tourism circuits could connect the park with nearby destinations. This could help local communities benefit from the growing tourism sector.

The reopening is expected to bring a fresh boost to local businesses. Safari operators, guides, hotels, resorts, restaurants and other tourism-linked businesses depend heavily on the annual wildlife season.

Kaziranga’s reopening follows the return of tourists to Manas National Park on October 2. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is scheduled to reopen on October 13. The staggered reopening marks the beginning of Assam’s 2026–27 wildlife tourism season.

With the new season underway, Kaziranga is once again ready to welcome wildlife lovers from across India and around the world.
