Hnahsin Kut 2026 Ends, Showcasing Mizoram’s Tourism Potential

Champhai, October 17, 2026: The 2026 edition of Hnahsin Kut, popularly known as the Cosmos Festival, concluded in Champhai after eleven days of cultural celebrations and tourism activities. Held from October 6 to 16, the festival showcased Mizoram’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and local enterprise, highlighting the potential of community-led tourism.

Organised by Champhai Nature Conservancy (CNC) with support from the Government of Mizoram, the festival celebrates the seasonal cosmos blooms that transform Champhai’s landscape. Since its launch in 2024, the event has grown to include musical performances, indigenous games, local food, exhibitions and adventure activities.

Addressing the concluding programme, Mizoram Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar congratulated the people of the state and acknowledged the contributions of CNC and the local community. He said the festival demonstrated how community initiatives could promote natural and cultural heritage while creating economic opportunities.

The minister also highlighted the growing interest among residents in exploring destinations within Mizoram and supporting local businesses. He said such efforts help retain money within the state’s economy and bring greater visibility to its tourism attractions.

The festival reportedly achieved a social media reach of 22.5 million, increasing awareness of Champhai’s cosmos blooms and its tourism potential.

The economic impact of Hnahsin Kut was evident during its 2025 edition, which recorded an estimated 1.2 lakh visitors. Festival stalls generated approximately ₹2 crore in revenue, while accommodation providers earned an estimated ₹1.4 crore. Overall economic activity in Champhai and surrounding areas during the festival period was estimated at around ₹15 crore, including spending on food, transport, shopping and other services.

Hnahsin Kut aligns with Mizoram Tourism’s Culture, Adventure and Nature (CAN) theme. The festival provides opportunities for local artists, performers, craftspeople and entrepreneurs to showcase their work and benefit from visitor spending.

With the 2026 edition concluded, organisers and tourism stakeholders aim to strengthen Champhai’s position as a year-round destination. By combining nature, culture and community participation, Hnahsin Kut offers a model for sustainable tourism development and improved local livelihoods in Mizoram.
