Biswanath, Assam, October 2, 2026: The first-ever Kaziranga Ironman Challenge was organised in Biswanath as part of the 72nd Wildlife Week celebrations, bringing together endurance sports and wildlife conservation awareness.
The event was organised by the Biswanath Wildlife Division of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) under the theme “Connecting Habitats, Thriving Wildlife.”
The challenge combined three endurance disciplines — running, cycling and swimming. Participants travelled along a route stretching from Panibharal in Biswanath to Bhomoraguri Bridge, covering different terrains and landscapes associated with the Kaziranga region.

The event was organised with the objective of promoting wildlife conservation and highlighting the importance of habitat connectivity. It also offered a new way of engaging adventure and endurance-sports enthusiasts with the natural environment.
Officials and participants, including two women from the Biswanath Wildlife Division took part in the inaugural edition. The organisers described the event as a trial edition, with plans to explore the possibility of expanding it in the future. A larger version could potentially bring together more endurance athletes and adventure-sports enthusiasts while continuing to promote conservation awareness.
The initiative comes at a time when Assam is looking to diversify its wildlife tourism offerings. Kaziranga has traditionally attracted visitors for its wildlife safaris and biodiversity, but initiatives such as endurance events could provide new avenues for nature-based tourism.
The challenge also coincided with the reopening of Assam’s major wildlife destinations after the annual monsoon closure. Kaziranga National Park reopens to tourists on October 3 for the 2026–27 tourism season.
The park recorded 4,68,147 visitors during the 2025–26 tourism season, including more than 30,000 international visitors.
With growing interest in adventure tourism and outdoor experiences, the Kaziranga Ironman Challenge could become a new addition to Assam’s sports and eco-tourism calendar. Its organisers are expected to assess the inaugural edition before deciding on a larger format in the future.
