Pro Panja League Trials Highlight Emerging Arm-Wrestling Talent

Guwahati, October 4, 2026: The Pro Panja League’s Northeast Trials concluded at the Rukmininagar Auditorium in Guwahati, bringing together some of the region’s promising arm-wrestling athletes and offering them a pathway to the national stage.

The trials, held in partnership with Assamese film production house Zeal Creations as Primary Sponsor and Partner, saw athletes from across the Northeast and other parts of the country compete in multiple weight categories.

Pro Panja League Co-Founder Parvinn Dabass and People’s Armwrestling Federation of India (PAFI) President Preeti Jhangiani attended the event. Jhangiani is also Vice-President of the Asian ArmWrestling Federation. Jamil Hilaly, Special Secretary, Sports & Youth Welfare, Government of Assam, was also present.

The event attracted several prominent personalities, including Garima Saikia Garg, wife of late music icon Zubeen Garg, actors Jatin Bora and Diganta Hazarika, filmmaker Manash Barua and Dr Hitesh Baruah, Founder and Managing Director of Nemcare Hospital.

The evening featured two high-profile Mega Matches. Mizoram’s Raymond Khawlhring defeated Assam’s Rituraj Pandey in the first contest. Haryana’s Karaj Virk then defeated West Bengal’s Arpan Kar in the second Mega Match.

Winners were also declared in seven other categories.

In the men’s section, Assam’s Dibya Jyoti Borah won the 60kg category, while Meghalaya’s Jimmison Marwein claimed the 70kg title. Mizoram’s Vanlal Duata and Biaksiamliana won the 80kg and 90kg categories respectively. Odisha’s Chandan Mohapatra emerged victorious in the 90kg+ category.

In the women’s section, Assam’s Junmoni Das won the 60kg category, while West Bengal’s Shireen Bojja claimed the 65kg+ title.

Dabass said the response in Guwahati demonstrated the depth of arm-wrestling talent in the Northeast. He said the trials were aimed at creating a structured pathway for athletes to compete, gain recognition and progress towards the Pro Panja League.

Jhangiani said Assam and the Northeast have always played an important role in Indian arm-wrestling. She added that PAFI would continue creating opportunities for athletes from the region and provide platforms for them to advance in the sport.
