Kingdom of Bhutan to open its Gates for Tourists from Tomorrow

The Kingdom of Bhutan has finally decided to let go of the travel restrictions that were imposed during the pandemic. The new rules for tourists to the landlocked Himalayan country will come into effect from tomorrow. However smaller entry gates to the country will be restricted only to Indian citizens as of now.

The Kingdom of Bhutan had maintained its Covid control policies for quite a long time. While the rest of the world decided to remove tests and quarantine requirements soon after the vaccination started, this country decided to keep them active till date. Full vaccination certificates are however compulsory for all grown ups.

The new policy involves a more formal approach towards tourism. All foreigner will now have to pay a Sustainable Development Fees per day for the duration of visit. While the amount is Rs. 1200 for Indian citizens, it will be $200 for all other countries. There will be a 100% exemption for children younger than 5 years and 50% for younger than 12 years. It will also be compulsory to have a tourist guide for engaging in tourism and adventure activities in the country. Staying in a registered accommodations and travel insurance are also compulsory from now on.

The registration and certification of guides, accommodations, eateries, taxis and other tourism services has been made more stringent. Also, the attached guide will be held responsible for any wrongdoing by the guests. This will enable a smoother and happier travel experience for the tourists. Details will also be available online, so as to make customized travel plans. The key idea behind these changes is to create a new Brand Bhutan to attract more tourists. This will give the travelers a world class experience, avoid conflict as well as tailor make their itinerary.
