Guwahati, September 1o, 2026: British virtual band Gorillaz will perform in Guwahati on January 31, 2027. The concert will be part of the group’s first-ever tour of India. The announcement has placed Assam on the itinerary of one of the world’s most recognised virtual music acts.
The Guwahati show will be held at the Sarusajai Sports Complex, also known as the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium. The concert is being organised in collaboration with Assam Tourism. District is the producer and ticketing partner for the tour.
Gorillaz will arrive in India with their The Mountain Tour. The India leg will begin in Bengaluru on January 23. The band will then perform in Mumbai on January 27. Guwahati will host the final Indian show on January 31.
The Guwahati announcement was welcomed by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. He said the city was proud to be among the host cities for the landmark India tour. He also looked forward to welcoming the band and fans from across the country.
Gorillaz was created by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The group is known for its four animated members. They are 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs.
The band has built a global following with songs such as “Clint Eastwood”, “Feel Good Inc.” and “On Melancholy Hill”. Their music combines alternative rock, hip-hop, electronic music and other genres.
The India tour also has a strong connection with the country. Gorillaz’s latest album, The Mountain, draws heavily from their experiences in India. The album features collaborations with several Indian musicians. These include Asha Bhosle, Anoushka Shankar, Ajay Prasanna, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash.
The Guwahati concert is expected to attract fans from across the Northeast and other parts of India. It could also provide a boost to Assam’s growing concert and tourism economy.
