Shillong, August 31: Shillong is preparing to turn shades of pink and music this November as the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival 2026 returns on November 20 and 21. The festival will move to a new permanent home at the New Shillong Highland Grounds in Mahmawdkuk, marking a new chapter for one of Northeast India’s most popular music events.
The festival combines live music with art, food, culture and the distinctive autumn landscape of Meghalaya. The event was first launched in 2016 as a celebration of the flowering of Himalayan cherry trees in and around Shillong. It has since grown into a major tourism and entertainment event, attracting visitors from across India and international audiences.
The 2026 edition has already announced three international headliners. Khalid, Swae Lee and Boys Like Girls will headline the festival, with two more international acts expected to be announced. Khalid brings his R&B and pop sound to Shillong, while Swae Lee adds a strong hip-hop and pop presence. American pop-punk band Boys Like Girls will bring another dimension to the musical lineup.
The organisers have not yet released the complete artist lineup. More performers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The move to the New Shillong Highland Grounds is one of the biggest changes for this year’s festival. The Meghalaya government has allocated the venue as a permanent space for large-scale festivals and concerts. Located around 30 minutes from central Shillong, the new ground is being developed with multiple entry and exit points, parking facilities and dedicated traffic-management arrangements. It is also expected to improve access for visitors travelling from Assam, Jowai and other parts of the Northeast.
For visitors travelling from outside Meghalaya, Guwahati remains the main gateway to Shillong. Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is around 100 km from Shillong, while Umroi Airport is around 35 km from the city but has limited flight connectivity. The road journey from Guwahati to Shillong is served by NH40, with taxis, shared cabs and buses available.
Travellers arriving by train for Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival 2026 can use Guwahati Railway Station, the nearest major railhead. From the station, regular taxis, shared vehicles and buses connect Guwahati with Shillong.
With international artists, a new permanent venue and the arrival of the cherry blossom season, the 2026 edition is shaping up as another major event on Meghalaya’s tourism calendar. For music lovers, it offers more than a concert weekend. It is an opportunity to experience Shillong’s distinctive music culture while exploring the hills, food and communities of Meghalaya.
As November approaches, the city is once again preparing for a weekend where music meets the mountains and Shillong turns pink.
