Foreign teams arrive in India for 132nd Durand Cup

The Durand Cup is one of the oldest and most prestigious football tournaments in the world. Two foreign teams are also taking part in the 132nd Durand Cup to be held next month. These two foreign teams arrived at their destination in India on Saturday, a few days before the kick-off of the tournament. While Nepal’s Tribhuvan Army Football Club arrives in Guwahati, the Bangladesh Army Football Team arrived in Kolkata.

Tribhuvan Army Football Club got a grand ceremonial welcome in Guwahati upon arrival. The 42-member squad is headed by Lt. Col. Basanta Raj Gurung  (Retd). Seasoned international player Nawayug Shrestha will be their captain for the tournament. 

Tribhuvan Army Football Club and Delhi FC will meet on August 9 in the newly built SAI Stadium in Kokrajhar. The rest of their matches are in the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. Tribhuvan Army FC are in the same group as Hyderabad, Delhi and Chennaiyin FC. “It is a great honour for us to participate in this prestigious tournament and we look forward to give our best.” mentioned the captain at the welcome event.

The Bangladesh Army Football Team also received a warm welcome at Kolkata from the hosts. They are alongside the local favorites Mohun Bagan Super Giant in Group A. These two teams will face each other in the opening match of the 132nd Durand Cup on August 3. Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) will be the venue of this match. 

The Bangladesh Army Football Team has come with a squad strength of 42. Nurul Haque Shuvo is captaining and Abdur Razaak is coaching this team. They find themselves in the same group as another local giant, the Emami East Bengal. Roundglass Punjab FC is the 4th team in Group A.
