Badungduppa Kalakendra hosts 12th Children’s Theater Festival

The famous Badungduppa Kalakendra, home of the popular Under the Sal Tree hosted a day-long theater festival for children. This was the 12th Children’s Theater Festival. And this festival took place in Rampur in the Goalpara district of the state of Assam on Friday, July 28.

A total of four plays were showcased in the 12th Children’s Theater Festival. Badungduppa Kalakendra organised this event in association with Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council. The festival aimed to inculcate creativity in the minds of young people. Promotion of local talent and showcasing diverse theatrical performances were also aims of the event. Ranjit Konwar inaugurated the theater festival in the afternoon. A biography on Sukracharjya Rabha, the founder of the Under the Sal Tree festival was also unveiled during the event. And Lukimoni Barua Bhuyan wrote this biographical account. 

The play named ‘Homework’ was the first act of the event. Chameli Rabha wrote and directed this play. ‘Tek Tek Tektar’ was the next play that the audience enjoyed in the event. Sina Rabha wrote and Sina Rabha and Binanda Rabha directed this play. The third play of the presentation was ‘Dhoppanni Saya’, originally written by Dharmeshwar Rabha. Bijoy Rabha and Nirmali Rabha directed this play. And the final performance was of ‘Jumang Masi’, written and directed by Udbhav Rabha. 

The captivating work of the children enthralled the audience of the event. People had gathered in large numbers from Guwahati, Goalpara and Bongaigaon for the theater festival. And the audience of the event comprised parents, theater enthusiasts and guests from various parts of the state. 

Madan Rabha, the managing director of the Badungduppa Kalakendra was also present for the festival. He expressed his happiness over the participation of a large number of children. As well as the huge number of audience who attended the event. He also emphasized the importance of artistic expression among the children. And how these events help the children towards their all-round development. Madan Rabha also ensured that they will continue to organize such events in the future as well.
