Tripura Launches Bamboo Cookies and Honey Bottles


Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday launched bamboo cookies and bamboo made honey bottle on the occasion of World Bamboo Day.

The initiative has been taken to provide a source of livelihood to the locals by producing these products as well as boost immunity among people.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said “Bamboo cookies and Honey bottle will now add another feather to our cap. It will generate livelihood opportunities for many & fulfill PM Narendra Modi’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat.”

He further stated that the cookies are healthy and nutritious as these have been made naturally.

The idea of making bamboo cookies was conceptualized by Tripura’s Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) head Avinav Kant. Reportedly, the cookies have been made from the shoots of ‘Muli Bamboo’ which is also known as sweet bamboo. Widely available in the state, this form of bamboo is rich in nutrients and low in fat.

Young shoots of bamboo are a delicacy in the Northeastern states. Apart from being a source of food and medicine, bamboo has many industrial uses.
