Guwahati, May 16, 2026: Athena Behavioral Health has launched what it describes as Northeast India’s largest integrated private psychiatric hospital in Guwahati, expanding its mental health and addiction treatment network to five hospitals across the country.
The new facility comes amid growing concerns over mental health and substance use in Assam and the wider Northeast, where access to structured psychiatric and de-addiction services remains limited. According to the National Mental Health Survey, nearly 8% of Assam’s population experiences mental health morbidity.
Athena will offer integrated treatment for psychiatric illnesses and substance use disorders, including psychiatric consultation, psychotherapy, detoxification, rehabilitation and long-term recovery planning.
The hospital will provide care for conditions including alcohol and substance dependence, depression, anxiety, trauma and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. Treatment will be delivered through multidisciplinary teams, structured protocols and round-the-clock clinical supervision.
Athena will also extend its women-only psychiatric care model to Guwahati. The specialised service is designed to address gender-specific clinical, therapeutic and safety requirements in psychiatric care.

She said the organisation’s expansion from its first hospital in Gurgaon in 2021 to a five-centre network was aimed at providing structured, ethical and outcome-driven care to underserved regions.
Dr Nimesh G. Desai, Director of Clinical Governance at Athena Behavioral Health and former Director of the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), said mental healthcare must move beyond awareness campaigns towards accessible systems of treatment.
“India needs accessible, ethical and integrated systems of care that combine clinical excellence with compassion and continuity,” Desai said, adding that expanding services into underserved regions could help bridge the treatment gap.
The hospital will particularly focus on addiction treatment, an area of growing concern across the Northeast. Athena said the facility will combine psychiatric and addiction care through integrated treatment pathways, structured therapy, family engagement and evidence-based recovery programmes.
The organisation also plans to conduct mental health awareness and outreach programmes in the region to address stigma and encourage early intervention.
Located at Garoo-ghuli, near Kaziranga English Academy, Garchuk, Guwahati, the facility will provide 24-hour admission and clinical support services.
Athena Behavioral Health was founded in 2021 and operates integrated psychiatric hospitals specialising in mental health and substance-use treatment.
