Guwahati, July 25: In a significant step towards strengthening cardiac care in Northeast India, the Heart Valve Foundation of India (HVFI), a charitable organisation led by Managing Trustee Dr. Ashok Seth, Chairman of Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, has announced a grant of ₹50 lakh to provide advanced cardiac treatment free of cost at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Okhla, New Delhi, for eligible patients referred by the Government of Assam.
The announcement was made during a press conference in Guwahati and marked the launch of a comprehensive healthcare initiative by HVFI and Fortis Escorts Heart Institute aimed at improving access to advanced cardiac care while building long-term medical capacity in Assam.
As part of the initiative, financially challenged patients from Assam requiring complex cardiac procedures at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute will also be offered treatment at Assam Government rates, subject to clinical evaluation. In addition, leading cardiac specialists from the institute, including Dr. Ashok Seth, Dr. Aparna Jaswal and Dr. Ritwick Raj Bhuyan, will conduct specialised training programmes for doctors and medical students at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) to enhance local expertise in advanced cardiac care.
The initiative addresses the growing burden of cardiovascular diseases and the high cost of treatment. And it continues to place advanced cardiac interventions beyond the reach of many economically disadvantaged families.
The initiative reflects the shared commitment of the Heart Valve Foundation of India, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and the Government of Assam. To improving access to quality, affordable cardiac care while strengthening the state’s healthcare ecosystem through capacity building and specialist collaboration.
