50% Air Transport Subsidy for Fruits & Vegetables from Northeast

A 50% air transport subsidy for notified fruits and vegetables from Northeast has been announced by the Union Ministry of food processing Industries (MoFPI).

This subsidy will apply for the forty one notified fruits and vegetables from Northeastern states and Himalayan states to any place in India under Operation Greens (TOP to TOTAL) scheme.

The fruits include Mango, Banana, Guava, Kiwi, Litchi, Mousambi, Orange, Kinnow, Lime, lemon, papaya, pineapple, pomegranate, Jackfruit, apple, almond, Aonla, Passion fruit, Pear, Sweet Potato and Chikoo.

While the twenty vegetables – French beans, Bitter Gourd, Brinjal, Capsicum, Carrot, Cauliflower, Chillies (Green), Okra, Cucumber, Peas, Garlic, Onion, Potato, Tomato, Large Cardamom, Pumpkin, Ginger, Cabbage, Squash and Turmeric (dry).

The transport subsidy will be provided directly to the supplier, consignee or agent by the Airlines by way of charging only 50 per cent of the actual contracted freight charges. The balance 50 will per cent will be claimed later as subsidy from the Ministry.

All the airports in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland & Sikkim are eligible under the scheme. And this step is expected to help out the farmers from the region and the agriculture sector of the region in the post covid scenario.
