Awards Distributed for Food Photography Contest

Guwahati Foodie, the largest dedicated food-related community in the region gave away the prizes of its Ethnic Food Photography Contest. Guwahati Foodie organised this contest to commemorate the World Food Day 2023 on November 10, 2023. They started taking entries for the contest on World Tourism Day 2023, ie. 27 September and closed on World Food Day 2023, ie 16 October.  Bhaswati Kalita, Dolee Talukdar and Urmi Lahkar Baruah won the contest and received the awards in the event held in Kalita Spectrum Hotel in Guwahati.

SM Hussain, Marketing Manager of Purabi Dairy attended the event as the Chief Guest while Dhiraj Deka and Parixit Bhattacharjee from the Fat Belly chain of eateries attended as Special Guests in the presence of Chef Dibas Pradhan, Executive Chef of Kalita Spectrum and gave away the awards to the winners. The prizes included a trophy, a certificate and a gift hamper from Purabi Dairy.  

Speaking about the contest, Sisir Kumar, the owner of Guwahati Foodie said, “This contest is our attempt to promote our ethnic cuisines and culinary traditions over social media. We are very happy that a large number of participants, across ages, ethnicities and locations participated in the contest. We also want to thank our sponsors for supporting our humble attempt to preserve our culinary culture.” He also thanked the Guests for taking out time from their busy schedules to be a part of the award distribution event.  He also extended his thanks to Purabi Dairy, Fat Belly, Momo Ghar, Life’s Purple and Discover East for their support towards this competition.

Speaking on the occasion, SM Hussain, Marketing Manager of Purabi Dairy, “I want to congratulate each of the winners and even the large number of participants on the occasion. It is really heartening to see the number of enthusiasts of ethnic cuisine on social media and we are happy to see the interests of the people in the cuisines of the region.” He also added that Purabi Dairy and Guwahati Foodie will soon be organising a Dessert Cooking Competition, the official announcement for which will be coming soon. 

Chef Dibas Pradhan also expressed his happiness regarding the presentation of ethnic cuisines in the competition and expressed his expectations that people will be more inclined towards the cuisines of the region in the days to come. Dhiraj Deka, one of the founders of the popular Fat Belly chain of restaurants also congratulated the winners on the occasion. 

Guwahati Foodie organises this food photography competition annually to highlight the rich heritage of ethnic cuisines from the state and the entire Northeast region and to encourage people to identify the local ingredients and cook the dishes on their own. More than 500 entries came in from across the country for this contest, out of which three were selected as winners by a panel of judges including experts in the field of cooking, photography and local cuisines.
