Brahmaputra Carnival 2023 Starts in Guwahati

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam opened the Brahmaputra Carnival 2023 for public today. Minister of Tourism, Jayanta Malla Baruah was also present for the event along with several officials from the tourism department.

Brahmaputra Carnival is a first of its kind tourism event to highlight the importance of the river for the Assamese people. The event encases adventure sports, fun activities and music under one roof. Traditional games and sports along with ethnic cuisines are also part of this mega event. Angling, high rope, ATVs, zip lining, surfing and aqua zorbing are some of the activities on the cards. Traditional music and dance as well as live band performances are also in place.

The inland water transportation department has dedicated two of its vessels for transporting people and vehicles to the event destination. These ferries will run from Fancy Bazar side at 10 AM 10.30 AM, 11.30 AM, 12.30 PM, 1 PM, 2 PM, 2.30 PM, 4 PM, 5.30 PM, 6.30 PM, 7 PM and 8 PM. Similarly ferries the North Bank at 11 AM, 12, 12.30, 1.30, 2, 3, 3.30, 5, 6.30, 7.30, 8 and 9 PM.

The exact duration of the event has not been notified by the organizers. But it is expected to run for 2-3 months. Assam Tourism is the main organizer of this event and aims to promote Guwahati and the culture of the state. Several events happen from time to time in the river bank, but this is the first consolidated event to showcase everything in a long duration event near Guwahati.

The entry fees for the event has been kept at Rs 300 per person. Apart from covering the ferry services, it also includes two activity coupons worth Rs 100 each.
