Tourism Ministry Spent 37 Crores to Promote Domestic Tourism

Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Patel on Tuesday informed that the Ministry of Tourism has spent around Rs 37 crores in 2019-20 to promote domestic tourism in the country.

As per reports about Rs 63 crores was spend in 2018-19 period and Rs 25 crores in 2017-2018 in promotion of sites within borders. The amounts were mostly used in various tourism campaigns via print media, digital media, theatre and even text messages.

As informed by the Tourism Minister, these campaigns are released through the Bureau of Outreach Communication (BOC), Doordarshan and National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).

The tourism ministry also came up with ‘Dekho Apna Desh‘ initiative in the beginning of 2020 to spread awareness about the rich culture and heritage and to promote domestic tourism. The initiative was launched aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s request to the citizens to visit at least 15 destinations within the country by the year 2022.

The Minister further informed that the Ministry has been carrying out various promotional activities including online quiz, webinars etc. to create awareness among people about tourist destinations within the country.

Apart from these steps, State tourism departments are also taking up initiatives to retain domestic tourists as well as to attract foreigners.
